Residential Aide - Inuvik, NWT

$34.50/hour + $5.50/hour Northern Allowance - Residential Aide

About this Position

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Residential Aide participates in the development and implementation of personalized care plans for each resident. They provide programming based on unique physical, mental, and emotional needs as well as ensure the safety and efficient operation of the group home. Duties include:

  • Build healthy relationships with clients in the residence in particular by demonstrating interest in the individual, positive reinforcement for behaviours, building self-esteem and negotiating focused goals
  • Work with each client to assist in identifying/assessing their strengths and needs
  • Assist clients in the residence in developing daily routines
  • Follow individualized care plans and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the Annual Care Plans
  • Maintain a safe environment through safety inspections, emergency procedures, crisis intervention techniques, etc.
  • Perform organizational duties through completing documentation, administrative duties, and managing workload appropriately
  • When required, provide assistance with personal care and hygiene
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of therapeutic life skills, recreational, and cultural programming
  • Provide crisis interventions with clients as appropriate

Your Skills & Abilities

  • A team player capable of working well within a team and independently
  • High level of organization and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites and Microsoft Windows software 
  • Comfortable working with adults requiring complex care
  • Ability to initiate, develop and deliver programming
  • Knowledge of Inuvialuit and Gwich'in culture is an asset
  • An understanding of the intergenerational and gendered impacts of residential schooling

Your Qualifications

  • Minimum of grade 12 education
  • 1+ years within a related field is considered a strong asset
  • Class 5 driver’s license and a clear driver’s abstract
  • Standard First Aid/CPR, NVCI, ASIST, and Food Handler Certification preferred or willingness to obtain training/certifications upon hire
  • Successful candidates are responsible for providing a clear criminal record check, vulnerable sector screening, up to date immunization record including proof of full Covid-19 vaccination, as well as clear tuberculosis skin test.

Employment Specifics & Compensation

  • Located in Inuvik, NWT
  • One full-time position, Mon-Fri 8am-4 pm
  • One full-time term position (8 months), Thur-Mon 12am-8am
  • $34.50/hour + $5.50/hour Northern Allowance
