Fly-in/Fly-out Child and Youth Care Supervisor - Fort Smith, NWT

If so, consider joining our team as a fly-in / fly-out Child and Youth Care Supervisors (CYCS). In this unique program design, CYCS’s travel to the Canadian North for 10 week on/off rotations, living with the rest of the team in modern off-site staff housing. Working at the facility as the lead member of the residential team, CYCS’s are the site supervisors, working in and with the program and completing additional administrative and supervisory responsibilities.

Primary Duties:

Working as part of a collaborative and interdisciplinary management team, the Child and Youth Care Supervisor’s job is to help support and oversee Trailcross Treatment Centre, located in Fort Smith, NWT.

Specific Duties:

  • Overseeing and participating in staff interventions and program delivery.
  • Supervising staff and performing administrative tasks such as overseeing payroll, accounts, client files, incident report submissions, HR duties, etc.
  • Working intentionally and proactively with youth to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  • Role modeling positive, trauma informed and relational practice approaches.
  • Building healthy relationships with youth in the residence by taking an interest in their lives, providing positive reinforcement for their behaviours, building their self-esteem and negotiating focused goals.
  • Ensuring emergency procedures, crisis intervention and CPI NVCI techniques are implemented as needed and in a safe and correct manner.
  • Providing leadership in building and sustaining effective partnerships with the network of community members, organizations, and government.
  • Providing ongoing guidance, support and supervision to staff and ensure the quality of implementation of company policy and procedures.
  • Leading efforts to coordinate and complete various reports and documents.
  • Supporting the development of case management and crisis action plans.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience working with youth or in the human services field.
  • Experience in supervision / management is required.
  • A Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care, human services or a related discipline.
  • Mandatory valid NVCI, CPR, First Aid, ASIST, WHMIS, Food Handler’s certification, and restriction-free Driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and facilitate activities and programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and autonomously.
  • Demonstrated ability to be resilient, adaptable and resourceful.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the intergenerational impacts of colonialism and residential schooling in Canadian Aboriginal communities.
  • Understanding of Circle of Courage model of care considered an asset.

Employment Specifics

  • Regular rotations of 10 weeks on, 10 weeks off.
  • An average of 68 hours worked per week (flexed to meet program needs).
  • Rates are progressive, with a fixed per diem wage of $16,128.06 per 10-week rotation to start.
  • Flight costs to/from site from major airport and accommodation costs while on rotation are covered.
  • Successful candidates are responsible for providing a clear criminal record check, vulnerable sector screening, up to date immunization record including proof of full Covid-19 vaccination, tuberculosis skin test and a clear driver’s abstract.
