Fly-in/Fly-out Clinical Therapist - Fort Smith, NWT

$13,455 / 10-week rotation, Rotating Schedule: 10 weeks on / 10 weeks off - Clinical Therapist

Are you a youth focused clinical therapist seeking a new challenge or change of pace? If so, consider joining our team as a Fly-in/Fly-out Clinical Therapist. Working in a Northern community under the guidance of the Clinical Supervisor, the Clinical Therapist is responsible for providing individual counselling sessions, facilitating psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, and providing educational discussion groups for staff at our residential care facilities.

Specific Duties

  • Prepare and deliver weekly ‘solos’ - individual therapeutic counselling sessions for each client in care.
  • Prepare and deliver weekly ‘duets’ - small group experiential therapeutic sessions outside of the residence.
  • Prepare and deliver weekly ‘groups’ - full group workshops on topics such as substance abuse, sexuality, trauma recovery, grief and loss, self-harm, emotional regulation, mindfulness, and more.
  • Facilitate regular staff education and wellness groups
  • Use clinical judgement to support interventions for youth in crisis and assess youth for potential harm.
  • Thoroughly document all therapeutic interventions with detailed case notes.
  • Build healthy relationships with youth in the residence by participating in aspects of the regular residential program.
  • Help each youth develop a personalized treatment plan and work with other staff to help youth to achieve their goals set in their plan of care.
  • Promote a friendly, supportive environment for co-operative living and conflict resolution skills.
  • Maintain client files, incident reports, and other reports as needed
  • Work systematically within the local community by networking and building and effective partnerships with community services and community members.
  • Bring energy, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to improve the wellbeing of young people in care to the job.

Qualifications/requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Counselling from an accredited postsecondary institution or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Be a member in good standing and have current registration with a provincial licensing body.
  • Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with children and adolescents.
  • Understanding of modalities such as DBT, CBT, MI and trauma informed approaches to care.
  • Experience working with clients who may be experiencing challenges such as self-harm, suicidal ideation, complex or acute trauma, or who may present with behaviours related to undiagnosed mental health concerns.
  • Demonstrated confidence and ability to create and facilitate therapeutic sessions on a wide range of topics.
  • An ability to think outside of the box and work creatively with youth who may be resistant to traditional clinical approaches.
  • A sense of humour and the ability to work within a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Experience with supervision considered an asset.
  • Mandatory valid CPR, First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, ASIST, WHMIS, and Food Handler’s.
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the intergenerational impacts of colonialism and residential schooling in Canadian Aboriginal communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Circle of Courage model of care considered an asset.
  • Successful candidates are responsible for providing a clear criminal reference check, vulnerable sector screening, a clear driver’s abstract, Hep A & B screening, as well as clear tuberculosis skin test.

  • 40 hours per week - flexed to meet youth being served
  • Start date is as soon as possible
  • Rotating schedule: 10 weeks on / 10 weeks off
  • Starting Compensation:  $13,455 / 10-week rotation
